We begin with a laser-like focus on finding very-specific relics, old industrial parts, mid-century machinery… all objects of a certain affection, desire & purpose. Objects which embody strong design values and a real sense of character. Each with its own unique heritage, a history all its own. For more than 20 years we have been scouring the old, vacant textile factories and combing through the old, industrialized saw-mills, hunting for those rare parts. We’re always looking for those visual-cues that help to hint at an object’s original use and help to honor its well-earned wear. They’re the unique, intrinsic qualities we want, from being carefully constructed, formed, molded… often built by the hands of a tradesman more than a hundred years ago. More often than not, these are qualities that originated right here in New England and during America’s Industrial Revolution. This is a special part of the country and a remarkable period in our shared history, which is exactly why it’s our area of focus.

Today, each and every one of these hand-picked, historical relics are simply… aged to perfection. Here in our workshops, they’re renewed and redesigned, so they can be put-to-use once again, as functional pieces of furniture, repurposed to perfection. All of the relics we pick, were originally crafted in an era when things were built to truly-last, built to truly-work & built to truly-impress. Now, they’re revived and often, revered.

These are what many folks would consider, objects of great-historical importance, what we and all of our clients like to consider… objects of great-personal value. Especially if one has an appreciation for history and a passion for fabulous design.

Today, we are a highly sought-after design resource, for the trade professionals and for those who “need to know.” We have been commissioned to design and build custom-commercial and residential furniture, lighting, displays, fixtures and furnishing for a wide-variety of clientele, from all around the world, from Shimamura Paris & Co. to London’s Dorchester Hotel (designed by Thierry W. Despont), to boutique hotelier Ian Schrager’s renovation of The Gramercy Park Hotel, (designed by the celebrated visual artist Julian Schnabel). Drawing from a vast library of design experience, we’ve developed an enviable selection of original industrial designs (some of which are now protected by US patents). We’ve also created a long and rich history for custom-installing, high-quality, vintage pieces, bequeathing us one the industry’s largest collections of original vintage-industrial style furnishings.

All of which we create and curate for folks who have a more-finicky style or a more-fastidious taste. The products we create are all about crafting an experience around the function and / or the design of a piece. This often done by showcasing the uniqueness of the piece and its original use, or by hinting at the origin story behind the key components of a piece, and allowing them to tie-together the overall theme of a design, for a given space. Quite often, each piece ends-up being the centerpiece. Fortunately, this has resulted-in quite a notable and almost nostalgic-like following around owning a Get Back designed piece.

With some of the clientele we keep, we know that we often appeal to the interests of a certain life-style, one that puts a premium on product-quality & exceptional client-services. We know these are qualities that are hard to find, and harder to keep. At its core, the Vintage-Industrial style of furniture, furnishings and lighting has a lot to do with respecting and celebrating our industrial heritage here in America. As mentioned, these are all carefully picked objects, pulled due in large-part to their inherent strength; now repurposed, reimagined and ready for use once again as vintage-industrial furniture, furnishing or lighting. Sometimes it is the unique “working” components (that are used within the design of a piece) that are referred to as historical-remnants, heritage-pieces, urban-artifacts or industrial-antiques. They’re often, the more-complete but very-dated components. Sometimes they’re old industrial machined parts or even the machinery parts themselves. Whatever their unique story is, it’s not a forgotten one. Even though the piece itself was pulled-out of a long-forgotten, old, abandoned factory, the piece still has a value to it. Whatever they (the piece or the parts) were, when they were “at-work”, they’re now going to be repurposed objects, redesigned and made into more-contemporary pieces. All because of the unique, inherent (and sometimes, hidden) value that we see in them. Granted, it’s often buried within the rust and behind the decay. However, each piece has the potential to become a new, more-functional, piece of industrial artwork. Hence, the need for us to create a helpful category descriptor like “vintage-industrial”. Which has helped to delineate these Works of Art (for the last 20+ years) from all the other more-modern industrial pieces, that one can often find at retail. We also like to refer to the more-unique, vague-looking, obscure vintage-industrial objects that we offer as “curiosities” (and these are perfect as home-décor pieces, or as great story-pieces). The word curiosity is used in large part due to the lack of clarity around the pieces’ heritage or historical significance (its story of origin), and this ambiguity often makes a piece even that much more-intriguing to buyers.

The vintage-industrial style is rooted in our passion for reviving the relics of our industrial past and repurposing the more-remarkable vintage (noticeably industrial American) sort of finds. Finds that truly-compliment the artisans of that incredible-era. Artisans and craftsmen who helped to originally create all of the old industrial components and antique-mechanized parts that we have unearthed and pulled from the historic factories in and around New England. All beautiful old “working” parts that we’re now able to re-use, re-work and ultimately, re-purpose once again. All, instrumental parts that can be put to good-use as we create each one of our custom-designed, modern-day-industrial, art-work, art-pieces. Often referred to as functional “Works of Art”, each one, inherently unique in their own way.
