Paul Pfurtscheller (1855–1927), an Austrian zoologist and biology teacher, produced an iconic series of 38 botanical and zoological wall charts for educational use from 1902 up to the time of his death, just before the completion of his 39th design. Highly regarded by eminent zoologists and botanists of the day, Pfurtscheller originally drew and painted these distinctive wall charts detailing the anatomical structure of animals, plants, and insects to compliment his lessons in the classroom despite having no formal training as artist. The aesthetic splendor of Pfurtscheller’s educational charts have been highly sought after by collectors who appreciate the peculiar genius behind prints of various industrial and institutional origins.
